Second deputy dies from injuries in courthouse area shooting

A second Wyandotte County deputy, Theresa King, has died from injuries she suffered in a shooting at about 11:16 a.m. Friday, June 15, near the Wyandotte County Courthouse, in the 800 block of 7th Street, a spokesman for the Kansas City, Kansas, police stated.

Deputy King, 44, died about 12:20 a.m. on Saturday, June 16, at the University of Kansas Hospital, according to police.

Deputy King had 13 years of service with the Wyandotte County Sheriff’s Department, the spokesman stated.

Another deputy, Patrick Rohrer, also died in the shooting, police announced Friday.

According to an initial investigation, the deputies were transporting detainees from a court hearing when the shooting occurred, a police spokesman stated.

A suspect who suffered a gunshot wound was also taken to KU Hospital, officials said earlier.
