Four rides at the Schlitterbahn Waterpark in Kansas City, Kansas, that have been closed will reopen for the rest of the season, according to an announcement today.
A spokeswoman stated that the Kansas Department of Labor has issued all remaining permits for the Whirlwind, Boogie Bahn, Soaring Eagle and WolfPack.
The Whirlwind had some pump issues that were readily resolved and it will open, according to the spokeswoman.
While some reports in the past stated that there were maintenance issues with the Soaring Eagle Zipline, that was incorrect, according to the Schlitterbahn spokeswoman. Some of these reports may have been connected with a KDOL audit letter.
“Soaring Eagle’s manufacturer inspected the ride and passed it prior to the KDOL audit; however the manufacturer needed to provide a service bulletin to document a change to a maintenance schedule,” the Schlitterbahn spokeswoman stated. “The service bulletin had not been provided to Schlitterbahn by the time the KDOL audit took place, and thus KDOL cited this as an issue that needed to be rectified. The service bulletin has since been received. Other than the manufacturer’s paperwork issue, there was no maintenance issue at Soaring Eagle Zipline.”
Because some of the life guard staff may be headed back to school, Schlitterbahn will make decisions on what rides will open, and will continue to announce ride availability daily.
