A Schlagle High School student was the victim of a fatal shooting at 10:08 p.m. Aug. 6 at 62nd and Nebraska.
Kansas City, Kansas, police today identified the victim as Jose Manning, a resident of Kansas City, Kansas.
Two persons of interest are now in custody, police stated.
Families of Schlagle students were notified by a message about the death.
“17-year-old Jose Kimble-Manning was about to enter his senior year at Kansas City, Kansas, Public Schools. At this time, we ask that you keep his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers,” Yolanda Thompson, Schlagle principal, wrote to the families.
Police went to the address after a report of a shooting, and they found Manning with a life-threatening gunshot wound, according to the police spokesman. Manning was rushed to a hospital, where he died from his injury, according to police.
A social media note by KCK police this morning stated that the victim and a suspect were in the basement of the residence when the suspect picked up a gun that he thought was unloaded. The suspect said he had unintentionally shot the victim, according to the social media post.
