The Schlagle Stallions were knocked out of the 5A playoffs Friday night in a 57 – 12 loss to Mill Valley. The Jaguars dominated with their running game and special teams play to take down the previously undefeated Stallions.
Running back Cam Young led the scoring for the Jaguars with four rushing touchdowns.
Mill Valley quarterback Brody Flaming tossed touchdown passes to Evan Rice and Trevor Wieschhaus. Rice also scored on a kickoff return. Isaac Ammann tacked on a touchdown run in the third quarter for the Jaguars.
Schlagle kept the game close early. Gavin Williams scampered 50 yards in the first quarter to set up a short Ivan Webb touchdown run that pulled Schlagle with a point at 7 – 6.
Mill Valley took over the game after that, scoring on the ensuing kickoff return. The Jaguars then forced a Schlagle punt and tackled punter David Chacon in the end zone to earn a safety.
Accurate short passing from Brody Flaming (250 passing yards) and forceful runs from Cam Young (139 rushing yards) enabled Mill Valley to maintain control throughout the second quarter, taking a 44 – 6 lead by halftime.
Schlagle got some breathing space in the second half as Mill Valley brought on substitutes. Quarterback Brayden Soza completed a long touchdown pass to Shamar Bush in the third quarter to make the score 57 – 12.
The game was marred by multiple unsportsmanlike conduct penalties late in the third quarter, as Schlagle’s frustration with the game boiled over toward the officials. Two Schlagle players were eventually ejected.
Schlagle finishes the year with a 9 – 1 record and the Kansas City – Atchison League championship.
Mill Valley will move on to face St. James Academy of Lenexa in the 5A tournament quarterfinals on Friday, Nov. 10.
