Authors to read from works at library event Feb. 27
The Kansas City, Kan., Public Library is holding its second Homegrown Reads local author fair featuring more than two dozen authors from the Kansas City metro area. This event will highlight burgeoning, new talent and popular, established authors. Fans will be able to meet and talk with authors, listen to live readings, and purchase copies of books to have signed. Homegrown Reads will take place at the West Wyandotte Library branch from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 27. West Wyandotte Library is at 1737 N. 82nd St., Kansas City, Kan.

Neighborhood meeting scheduled for Woodlands plans
Plans for The Woodlands racetrack facility, 9700 Leavenworth Road, may be presented at a neighborhood meeting scheduled at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, at Piper Middle School, 4420 N. 107th St., Kansas City, Kan. The racetrack is planning to reopen. The neighborhood meeting is part of the Unified Government planning and zoning process. After this meeting, the special use permit would have to go through the UG Planning Commission and the UG full commission for approval.

Learn how marbles are made

A marble-making demonstration is scheduled from about 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, at Moon Marble Co. store, 600 E. Front St., Bonner Springs. Demonstrations begin around 10 a.m. or 10:30 a.m. and end at about 3 p.m., provided a glass artist is available. For more information, see www.moonmarble.com/.

Learn sewing and quilting at the library
Sewing and quilting for beginners or for those who want to learn more will be offered from 10 am. to noon Saturday, Feb. 27, at the West Wyandotte Library, Kansas City, Kan., Public Library, children’s craft room, 1737 N. 82nd, Kansas City, Kan. The class is for adults, and for those ages 10 and older. There is a limit of 15. Advance registration is requested to the library, 913-596-5800. Those who register get priority.

Easy arts and crafts program offered at library
An easy arts and crafts program for adults and senior adults is planned from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 27, at the Main Kansas City, Kan., Public Library, youth storytime -craft room, 625 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, Kan. Those attending can make easy, abstract artwork. Even those who think they have no artistic ability can participate and create something. The program starts with blank canvases. Teens may attend if accompanied by an adult. There is a $5 fee for materials. Call 913-279-2066 to register.

Storytime offered on Saturday
A storytime with a science, technology, engineering and math (STEAM) theme will be held from 1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, at the Main Kansas City, Kan., Public Library, youth services storytime – craft room, 625 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, Kan. KCKCC men’s basketball team opens playoff competition today at home
The KCKCC men’s basketball team will open playoff competition with a first-round playoff game at 4 p.m. Saturday at home against Highland.

Live music offered
Live music by The Brendan MacNaughton Band, is planned at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, at Jazz: A Louisiana Kitchen, at 1859 Village West Parkway at The Legends Outlets, at I-435 and I-70 in Kansas City, Kan.
