Annual Wyandotte County Veterans Day commemoration to be Nov. 7
The annual Wyandotte County Veterans Day commemoration will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at the Salvation Army Harbor Light Village, 6723 State Ave., Kansas City, Kan. The event is presented by the Kansas City, Kan., Women’s Chamber of Commerce. This year’s event, from 10 a.m. to noon, will include a special recognition of Vietnam War veterans, on the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War. Groups expected to participate in the event include the Kansas City, Kan., Police Department Drum and Pipe Corps, Piper High School Music in Motion and Salvation Army Music Ensemble. There will be special speakers, veteran resources, commemorative displays, free giveaways and a brunch. Partners and sponsors of the event include the Kansas City, Kan., Convention and Visitors Bureau, Kansas City, Kan., Public Library, VFW Post 6401 and auxiliaries, Wyandotte County Museum, Providence Medical Center and Salvation Army Harbor Light Village.
Chili supper, silent auction planned at Grinter Place
A chili supper and silent auction is scheduled at 4 p.m. Nov. 7 at Grinter Place historic site, 1420 S. 78th St., Kansas City, Kan. There will be live music, a silent auction, a chili supper and tours of the house. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door. Children 5 and younger are free. Garage sale being held Saturday
There will be a combined garage sale on Saturday, Nov. 7, by Young Women on the Move, Scout troops, and Bethel Presbyterian Church at the church building at 2907 N. 81st, Kansas City, Kan. The sale will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. It will include clothes, furniture, kitchen items and miscellaneous items.
Church plans crafts fair
A wide variety of crafts will be available on Saturday, Nov. 7, at the annual Crafts Fair at Father Quinlan Hall, Holy Angels Parish, 154th and Leavenworth Road, Basehor, Kan. The event is open to the public and will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Twenty-five booths will feature items ranging from dried flower arrangements to woodworking and wreaths to jewelry and Christmas crafts. Refreshments will be available. This event is sponsored by the Catholic Women’s Organization of the parish and is planned to coincide with the annual Crafts Fair at Basehor High School. Adult craft: chocolate spoons
Adults and senior adults may register for a craft workshop on Saturday at the Main Kansas City, Kan., Public Library, 625 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, Kan. They will learn to make chocolate-covered spoons. The spoons can be used to strengthen hot chocolate or to stir in chocolate to coffee. The works workshop will be from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. Storytelling celebration planned at library
The 16th annual KC Storytelling Celebration will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at the Schlagle Environmental Library at Wyandotte County Lake, 91st and Leavenworth Road, Kansas City, Kan. Stories based on nature and animals will be told by Missouri native and award-winning storyteller, Jim Two Crows Wallen. Beth Byrd-Lonski, a mime, clown, physical theater artist and producer of physical theater, will join the program. All ages are welcome.
Wyandotte County Museum open
The Wyandotte County Museum, 631 N. 126th St., Bonner Springs, is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, and 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays. It is closed on Sundays and holidays.
