Democrats to meet for breakfast Oct. 17
The Wyandotte County Third Saturday Democratic Breakfast will meet this Saturday, Oct. 17, at a new location, The Dotte Spot Bar and Grill, 8123 Parallel Parkway, Kansas City, Kan. Janet Waugh will be the speaker. Waigj has been a member of the state of Kansas Board of Education for the past 15 years. The breakfast buffet will be available at 8:15 a.m. and the program will begin promptly at 9:15. The cost for the breakfast is $10; $6 for students and those on limited incomes. Those who attend do not need to purchase a breakfast. Reservations are requested by Friday, Oct. 16. Reservations help us plan for attendance, but are not necessary to attend. Lineman’s Rodeo to be today at the Ag Hall
Three linemen from the Kansas City, Kan., Board of Public Utilities will compete against hundreds of other utility workers from around the country at the 32nd annual International Lineman’s Rodeo in Bonner Springs, Kan., testing their professional and trade skills in a unique competition that is open to the public. Thousands of utility professionals are in town for an annual trade show and expo in Overland Park, Kan., with the highlight being the “Lineman’s Rodeo,” a series of competitions testing various lineman skills and safety techniques. The rodeo competition will occur on Saturday, Oct. 17, at the Agricultural Hall of Fame in Bonner Springs, kicking off at 8 a.m. Team and apprentice events will include The Hurtman Rescue, the Pole Climb, and several mystery events. Everyone’s an artist at ‘The Big Draw,’ coming today to KCKPL
The Kansas City, Kan., Public Library will be participating in the world’s biggest drawing festival on Oct. 17. The Big Draw event will be held at the South Branch of the Kansas City, Kan., Public Library, 3104 Strong Ave., from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 17. Participants will celebrate creativity by drawing and painting their own artwork. They’ll be able to take it home or hang it in the KCKPL art gallery, which has many professional art exhibits. Supplies, snacks and fun will be provided. There will also be three visiting professional artists demonstrating their work. Halloween Howl planned Oct. 17 at Wyandotte County Museum
The Wyandotte County Museum is planning a Halloween History Howl event from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, at the museum, 631 N. 126th St., Bonner Springs. The event is for children aged 2 to 16 years old. Pumpkin painting, storytellers, face painting, balloon artists, a magician, animal educators, train rides, Ident-A-Kid, fire trucks, popcorn and cotton candy are part of the activities to be offered. The cost of the event is $5 for children 2 and up, and free for adults 17 and older. Children may wear their Halloween costumes. Church plans Oktoberfest dinner
St. Mary-St. Anthony Catholic Church, 615 N. 7th St., Kansas City, Kan., will hold an Oktoberfest dinner from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17. The Renaissance Festival will continue Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 17-18, near 126th and State in Bonner Springs. Gates open at 10 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The event is open on weekends only. Pirates Ale Fest is the theme of the weekend, with a tattoo competition, pirate games and contests, craft beer tastings, best beard competition, trick-or-treating, free arts and crafts for kis, costume contest and eating contest.
