Spanish singing lessons planned today
Learn to sing Spanish songs at a program from noon to 2 p.m. today, April 11, at the South Library of the Kansas City, Kan., Public Library, Meeting Room B, 3104 Strong Ave., Kansas City, Kan. The music program is for all ages.
Craft program planned on painting flower pots
The Mr. and Mrs. F.L. Schlagle Environmental Library plans a craft project on painting a flower pot. The craft program is from 1 to 3 p.m. today, April 11, at the library, at Wyandotte County Lake Park, 4051 West Drive, (91st and Leavenworth Road area), Kansas City, Kan. All supplies will be provided, and those attending will take home a bag of potting soil and wildflower seeds. The cost will be $2 per flower pot painted. Recycled bucket drumming workshop for kids offered today
Using recycled buckets, youth will learn about the role of music in various cultures and how those cultures led to what is heard in music today, at a workshop from 2 to 4 p.m. April 11 at the West Wyandotte Library auditorium, 1737 N. 82nd, Kansas City, Kan. Space is limited to the first 30 students on a first-come, first-served basis. Children under 9 must be accompanied by an adult. This program is free.
Alcott Arts Center plans its opening day on April 11
The Alcott Arts Center plans its opening day on Saturday, April 11. Entries from the PTA Nationals Reflections and Citizenship Contest will be displayed. Students submitted pieces in visual arts, literature, film, music composition and dance choreography. Local PTA groups submitted entries from their students to be judged by a group of artists provided by the Alcott. These entries will be on exhibit April 11 through May 2. The opening reception will be at 6:30 p.m. April 11. Galleries at Alcott will be open through the month by appointment, telephone 913-233-2787. The Alcott is not yet ADA-accessible. NEH exhibit on Prohibition visits Wyandotte County Museum
“Spirited: Prohibition in America,” a National Endowment for the Humanities traveling exhibition, will visit the Wyandotte County Museum from April 6 to May 25. The exhibit covers the history of Prohibition, which started in 1919 and continued 13 years. The museum is at 631 N. 126th St., Bonner Springs. Hours of the exhibit are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. The exhibit is free to the public. Strawberry Hill Museum open on weekends
The Strawberry Hill Museum, 720 N. 4th St., Kansas City, Kan., is open on the weekends. The museum is open from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Sporting Kansas City will be at home tonight against Real Salt Lake in a re-match of the 2013 MLS Cup final on Saturday at Sporting Park in Kansas City, Kan.
