St. Nicholas arrives at Strawberry Hill Museum
St. Nicholas arrives at Strawberry Hill Museum from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6. A photo with St. Nicholas may be purchased for $5. There is an admission charge to the museum. There will be milk and cookies, plus a gift for children. The Strawberry Hill Museum, 720 N. 4th St., Kansas City, Kan., has opened for the holidays and will remain open on weekends through Sunday, Jan. 26. The museum, decorated in Victorian style, is open from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, with special tours available by appointment. The cost of a tour is $7 for adults and $3 for children 6-12. Nighttime tours will be available at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19, and reservations are required. Alternate Chili Run planned Dec. 6

Enroll Wyandotte offering health fair and enrollment event
Enroll Wyandotte is holding a health fair and enrollment event from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, at Memorial Hall, 600 N. 7th St., Kansas City, Kan. At the event, volunteers will be available to assist persons in enrolling for health insurance. There will be screening for blood pressure, body mass index, and blood sugar. The event is open to the public and child care will be provided.
Legends 14 Theatres offers free holiday movies
The Legends 14 Theatres at Village West will offer free holiday movies at 10 a.m. Dec. 6, “The Polar Express,” 10 a.m. Dec. 13, “The Grinch,” and 10 a.m. Dec. 20, “The Sana Clause.” Seating is by availability and is first-come, first-served.
Artist reception planned
An artist reception for Jeff Collins, local photographer, and his exhibit, “Wyandotte County,” is planned from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, at the West Wyandotte Library’s Fine Arts Gallery, 1737 N. 82nd St., Kansas City, Kan. There will be light refreshments.
Author reading planned
Local author Lissa Sloan will be at the Main Kansas City, Kan., Public Library, 625 Minnesota, from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, to promote her short story in the book, “Krampusnacht: Twelve Nights of Krampus.” She has poems and stories published in the magazine, “Enchanted Conversation.” She also writes and illustrates for younger readers. The event today is for adults and all ages.
Grinter Place plans holiday with the arts Dec. 6
An evening of visiting with local artists, viewing their works, visiting with and listening to local authors, plus live music played by local musicians, is planned from 4 to 7 p.m. Dec. 6 at Grinter Place, 1420 S. 78th. There also will be a “wine tasting” by the Wine Barn. Admission for the Dec. 6 event is $6 per person or two for $10. Nativity Display to be Saturday and Sunday
The Cathedral of St. Peter, 409 N. 15th St., Kansas City, Kan. is sponsoring the fourth annual Nativity Display from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7. Book signing planned Saturday
A former resident of Kansas City, Kan., Clyde Calvin Glandon, has written a crime novel set in Kansas City, Kan., his hometown. Glandon uses the pen name “C. G. Calvin” in writing “Wyandotte Sonata.” Lee Hunter, a private investigator from Los Angles, returns to Kansas City and takes a job with a security company. Suddenly he finds himself immersed in a murder mystery.
