Bollier to speak Saturday at Democratic breakfast

State Sen. Barbara Bollier, a candidate for the U.S. Senate, is the guest speaker at 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, at the Wyandotte County Third Saturday Democratic Breakfast at Las Islas Marias, 7516 State Ave. The event starts with a breakfast buffet at 8:15 a.m., with the program at 9 a.m. The meeting is open to Democrats. The buffet will cost $10, or $6 for students and those on limited incomes. Those who attend do not have to purchase a breakfast. Those who plan to buy breakfast should make reservations to [email protected] by Friday, Nov. 15. Sponsors are available for students attending the breakfast for the first time.

Holiday Craft Show to be Saturday

A Holiday Craft Show will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, at the Eisenhower Community Center, 2901 N. 72nd St., Kansas City, Kansas. Artists and crafters will display their works at th annual show. The public may attend and buy local crafts. The event is sponsored by the Unified Government Parks and Recreation Department.

Green story time planned
A Green story time is planned from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, at the Mr. and Mrs. F.L. Schlagle Library, 4051 West Drive, inside Wyandotte County Lake Park, Kansas City, Kansas. Recycling and compost will be the topic of this storytime for children.

Ribbon-cutting scheduled for Avenue of Life Youth Home

The public is invited to the new Avenue of Life Youth Home ribbon cutting at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, at 3535 Wood, Kansas City, Kansas. This new facility is for the homeless unaccompanied youth. The goal is to provide a home for these youth and provide an opportunity for graduation, college and career which are often not available for homeless youth.

Family story time planned

Family story time will be held from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 16, in the craft room at the Main Kansas City, Kansas, Public Library, 625 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, Kansas. Participants will read stories, dance and sing. This program is geared to children ages 2-6.

Spanish singing lessons planned

“Clases de Canto,” or Spanish singing lessons, are planned from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, in Conference Room B, South Branch Library, 3104 Strong Ave., Kansas City, Kansas. The Spanish language singing class is taught by Sandra Zamora. For other library programs, visit www.kckpl.org.

Strawberry Hill Museum tours planned

Olde World Christmas weekend tours are planned at noon Saturday, Nov. 16, and Sunday, Nov. 17, at the Strawberry Hill Museum, 720 N. 4th St., Kansas City, Kansas. Reception for Hmong textile exhibit to be Saturday at library

A reception for the exhibit, “Cloth as Community: Hmong Textiles in America,” will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, at the West Wyandotte Library, 1737 N. 82nd St., Kansas City, Kansas. Geraldine Craig of Kansas State University, who currently provides curatorial updates for the exhibit, will speak. Following Craig’s presentation, a documentary will be shown. Geraldine Craig is an artist and writer whose research-based practice focuses on the intersections and relationships between textile history, theory or criticism, curatorial work, and studio practice. Santa Claus to arrive at Cabela’s at 5 p.m. Saturday

Santa Claus will arrive at Cabela’s in Kansas City, Kansas, on Saturday, Nov. 16. The celebration at 5 p.m. at the store at 10300 Cabela Drive in the Village West area of Kansas City, Kansas, will include free games, activities and crafts. Activities will take place in the Santa’s Wonderland area of the store. Santa Claus will arrive at 5 p.m. and children will help Santa illuminate the store and Christmas tree. Legends Outlets holiday tree lighting to be at 5:45 p.m. Saturday

Santa Claus will arrive around 5:45 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16, at The Legends Outlets and help to light the 45-foot tall holiday tree, accompanied by holiday music. The shopping center at I-70 and I-435 will include activities with the free public event. There will be live music, prize giveaways, photos with Santa, kids’ crafts, and free hot cider. The tree lighting will take place earlier this year, between 5:45 and 6:15 p.m., with live music and activities continuing until 8 p.m. The activities are at the courtyard near the movie theater, and also at the Legends Lawn. Basketball tournament scheduled at KCKCC
The Kansas City Kansas Community College women’s basketball team is scheduled to play North Central Missouri College at 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, at the KCKCC fieldhouse, 7250 State Ave., Kansas City, Kansas. It is part of the KCKCC Blue Devil Classic tournament.

“Night at the Wax Museum” will be presented at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, at Bishop Ward High School auditorium, 708 N. 18th St., Kansas City, Kansas. Admission is $7 for adults and $5 for children 5 and older. Admission is free for active military and religious leaders.
