Third Saturday Democratic Breakfast to be July 20
Speakers for the Wyandotte County Third Saturday Democratic Breakfast on Saturday, July 20, will be candidates running for local offices who are Democrats. The breakfast will begin with a buffet at 8:15 a.m. with the program following at 9 a.m. at Las Islas Marias, 7516 State Ave., Kansas City, Kansas. The breakfast is open to all Democrats. The cost of the buffet is $10; students and those on limited income pay $6. It is not necessary to purchase a breakfast to attend. Those who do plan to purchase a breakfast are encouraged to make reservations to [email protected] by Friday, July 19. Reservations are not required to attend. Each Unified Government Commission candidate speaking at this month’s breakfast will have four minutes to speak; Board of Public Utilities candidates will have 2.5 minutes each; and school board and Kansas City, Kansas Community College Board of Trustees candidates will have 90 seconds each. The candidates will be able to bring campaign literature.

Lunar landing anniversary celebration to be Saturday at library
A lunar landing anniversary celebration will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 20, at the Mr. and Mrs. F.L. Schlagle Library, 4051 West Drive, at Wyandotte County Lake, 91st and Leavenworth Road. It will be the 50th anniversary of humans landing on the Moon as part of NASA’s Apollo II lunar mission. Children may drop in any time between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. for crafts and activities.

Family story time planned
Family story time will be held from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 20, at the craft room, Main Kansas City, Kansas, Public Library, 625 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, Kansas. This program is geared to ages 2 to 6. There will be a story, dancing and singing. For other library programs, visit www.kckpl.org.

Spanish singing lessons planned
“Clases de Canto,” or Spanish singing lessons, are planned from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, July 20, in Conference Room B, South Branch Library, 3104 Strong Ave., Kansas City, Kansas. The Spanish language singing class is taught by Sandra Zamora. For other library programs, visit www.kckpl.org.

Library sponsors craft programs with ‘Galaxy’ theme
The Kansas City, Kansas, Public Library’s South Library, 3104 Strong Ave., Kansas City, Kansas, is sponsoring craft programs on Saturday, July 20. One will be “Make Your Own Galaxy Bath Bomb,” from 2 to 3 p.m. Another will be “Cupcake Wars” from 3 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the South Library. Children can make a “Galaxy Jar” from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Main Library, 625 Minnesota Ave. Registration is required for some of these programs. ‘Christmas in July’ to be Saturday evening at Wyandotte County Lake
Pontoon boats will decorate for Christmas on Saturday evening for the sixth annual Christmas in July celebration at Wyandotte County Lake Marina, 91st and Leavenworth Road, Kansas City, Kansas. The event is sponsored by the Unified Government Parks and Recreation Department. The Christmas in July event will have mist tents and also there will be plenty of water. The event is free and open to the public, and there will be giveaways, according to officials. Twenty-five gift cards or items will be given away in drawings. There is no entry fee for the event or for the giveaways. The family event is for everyone, not just those who have boats. A fishing tournament is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. Saturday, and the judging for the boats will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., followed by the boat parade. Fireworks are scheduled at 9:15 p.m. Registration is required for the boat parade. A basketball tournament in conjunction with Christmas in July originally planned outdoors has been moved indoors, officials said. T-Bones to play tonight in KCK
The T-Bones will play the Winnipeg Goldeyes at 7:05 p.m. Saturday, July 21, at T-Bones Stadium, 1800 Village West Parkway, Kansas City, Kansas. It will be First Responders Night, with post-game fireworks. For ticket information, see http://www.tbonesbaseball.com/.

FC Dallas to play Sporting KC tonight in KCK
FC Dallas will travel to Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City, Kansas, to play Sporting Kansas City at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, July 20. Sporting KC has won two matches in a row. Tickets for the match between the MLS charter members remain available at SeatGeek.com, and the first 7,500 fans through the stadium gates will receive a free pair of sunglasses.
