Piper Community Festival and car show to be Sept. 29
The Piper Community Festival and car show will take place Saturday, Sept. 29, at Piper High School, 4400 N. 107th St., Kansas City, Kansas. The Piper Community Festival will run from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., with the car show open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public. Renaissance Festival continues
The Kansas City Renaissance Festival continues on weekends through Oct. 14 at the festival grounds at 130th and State Avenue, Bonner Springs. The festival is a celebration of medieval life, with such activities as jousting, contests, a royal parade, music, entertainment and food. Hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tickets are $22.95 per adult, $13.95 for children 5-12, $20.25 for seniors and students, and free for children 4 and younger. Rain garden workshop planned Sept. 29
A rain garden workshop is planned at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, on the southeast side of Welborn Lake, near 48th and Leavenworth Road. David Dods will be the instructor for the workshop. It is open to the public.

Family story time planned
Family story time is planned from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at the Main Kansas City, Kansas, Public Library, craft room, 625 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, Kansas. Kansas poet laureate to present program
Kevin Rabas, Kansas poet Laureate, will present a program from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at the South Branch Library, Conference Room A, 3104 Strong Ave. Rabas will read his poetry and invite members of the audience to read their own. This program is through a grant from the Kansas Humanities Council, with assistance from The Writer’s Place, Riverfront Readings and Kansas City, Kansas, Public Libraries.

Bishop Ward auction planned Sept. 29
The annual Bishop Ward High School auction will be held Saturday, Sept. 29, at the Uptown Theater, 3700 Broadway Blvd., Kansas City, Missouri. The event begins at 5:30 p.m., with dinner served until 7 p.m. The live auction begins at 7:30 p.m. The theme of the 40th annual auction is “Black, White and Ruby.” Tickets are $80.
