Wyandotte County Ethnic Festival to be April 14
The Wyandotte County Ethnic Festival will be from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, April 14, at the Kansas City Kansas Community College fieldhouse, 7250 State Ave. The educational event, open to the public, celebrates diversity. More than 50 organizations, countries and ethnicities from Wyandotte County are expected to have displays. Expected to perform at the event: West of Marrakesh, China Dancers, Sabor a Peru Dancers, Los Bailadores Mexican Dancers, S.V. Blautaler German Dancers, Danny Hinds and Ayotunde Barbados Drumming and Dance, Garima Yadav, Kathak dance performance, St. Andrew Scottish Highland Dancers, and Panamanian Dancers. Musicians expected to perform include Hrvatski Obicaj Croatian Orchestra; Shawn and Gloria Derritt singing “America the Beautiful”; a reggae band; Allen Arias with Costa Rican guitar, cajon and voice; Roger Suggs, hip-hop; Tez and Tam Gospel Music; Hmong Singers; and Lem Sheppard folk music. There will be a Creative Children’s Corner. A food court will offer dishes from India, Peru, West Africa, Kenya and Mexico. There is no admission charge. There is a charge for food. Storytime planned at library
Family storytime is planned from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, April 14, at the Main Kansas City, Kansas, Public Library, 625 Minnesota Ave. Participants will listen to stories, dance and sing. The program is geared to ages 2 to 6.
Bilingual storytime planned
Bilingual storytime is planned from 2 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 14, at the Main Kansas City, Kansas, Public Library, 625 Minnesota Ave. Stories and songs in English and Spanish are planned.
Apple Blossom Festival scheduled
Cider Hill Family Orchard, 3341 N. 139th St., Kansas City, Kansas, will sponsor its Cider Hill Apple Blossom Festival from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 14, and from 11 am. to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 15. Activities include hayrides, a children’s train, children’s crafts, local vendors, a barbecue lunch, and apple cider doughnuts. Young artists to exhibit works at Alcott April 14
The Alcott Arts Center, 180 S. 18th St., Kansas City, Kansas, will hold its second Saturday art exhibit at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 14. The “Incredibly Talented KCK Young Artists Exhibit” will feature art and performances by students from Washington High School, Turner High School, Wyandotte High School, Argentine Middle School, Midland Trails Elementary, Oak Grove Elementary, Faith Christian Academy and the KCK Council PTA “Reflections” contest entries. Taco bingo planned
Taco bingo is planned from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Saturday, April 14, at St. Patrick parish center, 1086 N. 94th St., Kansas City, Kansas. The cost of dinner is $8 for adults and $5 for children; or $25 for the entire family. Bingo is an additional charge of $10 for six cards.
