Polar Plunge today to raise funds for Special Olympics
The annual Polar Plunge – a fundraiser for the Special Olympics Kansas – is planned today at Schlitterbahn water park at 94th and State Avenue in Kansas City, Kansas. The event includes a 5k fun run, costume contest based on the theme, “Get Your Cool On,” and the plunge. The event opens at 8 a.m. with the Polar Strut and the Polar Plunge will be at 9:45 a.m. at Schlitterbahn. For more details and to sign up to participate, visit http://www.plungeks.org/.

Celebrate Kansas statehood at the library
A craft program and movie from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Main Kansas City, Kansas, Public Library’s craft room, 625 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, Kansas, will celebrate Kansas statehood. Children and teens will create their own puppets with Kansas-themed decorations; also, participants may come in costume as a character from the Muppets or Wizard of Oz. Movies to be shown will be “The Muppets” and “Wizard of Oz.” There will be snacks. The event is for ages 18 and younger.

Youth painting class scheduled
A Paint the Masters class will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, at the West Wyandotte Library, craft room, 1737 N. 82nd St., Kansas City, Kansas. KCKCC home basketball games scheduled today
The KCKCC Blue Devils’ conference home opener will be Saturday against Hesston. Women open the twin bill at 2 p.m. with the men to follow at 4 p.m. at home at 7250 State Ave., Kansas City, Kansas.
