Renaissance Festival opens season on Sept. 2
The 41st annual Renaissance Festival will open Saturday, Sept. 2, and run on weekends plus Labor Day and Columbus Day, through Oct. 15. Hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The festival site is located at 130th and State Avenue in Bonner Springs. For more information, visit www.kcrenfest.com.

Mariachi and Folkloric Festival scheduled today
A Mariachi and Folkloric Festival is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 2, at the Kansas National Guard Armory, 18th Street and Ridge Avenue, Kansas City, Kansas. More than 50 different canopy tents will sell food and refreshments. There will be a four-hour Community Fiesta Dance indoors with different bands. A moonwalk, children’s games and a disc jockey also are part of the festival.

Wyandotte County Museum exhibit on the Underground Railroad continues today
The Wyandotte County Museum, 631 N. 126th St., Bonner Springs, has a new exhibit on the Underground Railroad on display. “Through Darkness to Light” features photographs taken mostly at night of sites along the Underground Railroad. The exhibit runs through Oct. 10. There are companion artifacts from the pre-Civil War era here currently on display at the museum. Special Labor Day weekend hours include 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, Labor Day. There is no admission charge. Family storytime planned
A family storytime is planned from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 2, at the Main Kansas City, Kansas, Public Library, 625 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, Kansas. Stories, rhymes and songs are planned.
