Democrats to meet
Saturday, July 15, will be a meeting of the Wyandotte County Third Saturday Democratic Breakfast at the Dotte Spot Bar and Grill, 8123 Parallel Parkway. The breakfast buffet is available at 8:15 a.m., with reservations encouraged, and the program is at 9 a.m. All candidates who are registered Democratic voters and are on the Aug. 1 primary ballot may speak at the breakfast. The cost of the breakfast is $10, with $6 for students and those on limited incomes. There is a $2 charge for coffee for those not purchasing breakfast.For more information, email [email protected].
Wyandotte County Fair continues today
The Wyandotte County Fair continues on Saturday, July 15, from noon until 11 p.m. A fruit pie contest will accept entries from all ages from 10 a.m. to noon today, with judging at noon. First prize wins $100. Helicopter rides will be available for $40 per person from noon until dark, weather permitting. The 4-H parade of champions is at 7 p.m. A mud run is scheduled at 6 p.m., with an arena admission fee of $12 for those 12 and older, $5 for ages 6 to 11 years, and 5 and under, free. At the free stage tent tonight will be the Alan Thorne gospel night, 7 to 10 p.m. There is a charge for carnival rides, and it will be a $25 wristband night. There is a $5 charge per car for parking at the fairgrounds, which is at 13700 Polfer Road in Kansas City, Kansas (from K-7, go east on Polfer Road). Bats to be topic of library program
A program about bats will be offered from 10 a.m. to 10:50 a.m. July 15 at the Mr. and Mrs. F.L. Schlagle Environmental Library, 4051 West Drive, at Wyandotte County Lake, 91st and Leavenworth Road. The program is free and for all ages.
Free health screenings at West Wyandotte Library
Free health screenings will be offered today at the West Wyandotte Library, 1737 N. 82nd, Kansas City, Kansas. Besides health screenings, there will be interactive activities and educational information offered. The location is in the library auditorium.
Free concert offered at Legends Outlets
A free outdoor concert will be offered from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, July 15, at The Legends Outlets. Perpetual Change, a rock band playing hits from the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s, as well as some original songs, will perform July 15. The concert is at the Civic Courtyard Fountain, near 1843 Village West Parkway, Kansas City, Kansas. The Legends is near I-70 and I-435 in Kansas City, Kansas.
Blues festival planned at Kaw Point Park
Blues on the River, a festival at Kaw Point Park, 1401 Fairfax Ave., will be held from 3 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Tickets at the gate are $40 each.
