Bonner Springs to hold Operation School Supplies
Operation School Supplies will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 2, at Bonner Springs High School for students in the Bonner Springs-Edwardsville School District. The event is intended to help low-income families with providing school supplies for their children in kindergarten through 12th grade. To qualify, students must be in the Bonner Springs-Edwardsville district, currently enrolled or a returning student in the district. Workers have a list of all enrolled students. Sponsors of the event include the school district, Vaughn-Trent Community Services, Fellowship West, Bonner Springs City Library, Walmart, Lagasse Sweet, and churches, businesses and individuals.
ECS visits St. Paul’s Church
Representatives from Episcopal Community Services of Kansas City will visit St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1300 N. 18th St., from 8:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2. The representatives will observe the Saturday morning breakfast, the pantry and a community garden. ECS and cooperating Episcopal parishes in Northeast Kansas and Northwest Missouri serve more than 1.6 million meals annually to the needy.
Animal meet-and-greet planned
An animal meet-and-greet is planned at 1 p.m. Aug. 2 at the Mr. and Mrs. F.L. Schlagle Environmental Library at Wyandotte County Lake Park, 91st and Leavenworth Road. The education animals that call Schlagle Library home will meet visitors.
MakerSpace Mini Fair planned
A MakerSpace Mini Fair will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Aug. 2 at the West Wyandotte Library, 1737 N. 82nd St., in the auditorium. There will be MakerSpace demonstrations. Exhibitors were asked to call in advance to register, to 913-596-5800, Ext. 1006. The program is for adults, teens and senior adults.
Live at Legends free concert to be Aug. 2
The Legends Outlets, I-70 and I-435, will sponsor free family friendly concerts on some Saturday evenings during July and August in front of the center courtyard fountain. Big Time Grain Company will perform from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2. The Live at the Legends summer concert series will feature local and regional talent performing popular pop, classic rock and country hits from the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, and today. The concert series will take place at the center of the Civic Courtyard Fountain in front of Phoenix Theaters Legends 14.
Summer concert to be Aug. 2 at Legends
Dave and Buster’s Summer Concert Series will continue at 9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, on the rooftop patio at The Legends Outlets. Counter Culture will perform from 9 p.m. to close Aug. 2. Different bands will play on Saturdays through September.
‘Monsters 2014’ scheduled at Cricket Wireless Amphitheater
“Monsters 2014,” featuring tributes to AC/DC, Ozzy Osbourne, Van Halen and Iron Maiden, is scheduled at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2 at Cricket Wireless Amphitheater, 126th and State Avenue, Bonner Springs. Tribute bands will be performing. See ticketmaster.com for ticket information.
