Veterans Day Commemoration to be Nov. 5
The annual Veterans Day Commemoration will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 5, at the Salvation Army Harbor Light Village, 6723 State Ave., Kansas City, Kan. It is free and open to the public. There will be a guest speaker and music. A brunch and commemorative displays are part of the program. This year, on the 25th anniversary of Desert Storm, there will be a special recognition of Desert Storm veterans. It is also the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War, and the 75th anniversary of Pearl Harbor, and there will be a special recognition of World War II and Vietnam War veterans.

Library plans Day of the Dead program
The West Wyandotte Library, 1737 N. 82nd St., plans a Day of the Dead program at noon Saturday, Nov. 5. Those attending will learn about the holiday, explore altars, decorate sugar skulls, have their face painted and do a craft. There will be live music and pan de muerto.

Friends of Grinter plan chili supper Nov. 5
The Friends of Grinter annual fundraiser chili supper will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5. The event will be held at the Grinter Barn, 1400 S. 78th, Kansas City, Kan. All-you-can-eat chili will be $8 for adults and $4 for children under 12, and will include hot dogs, drink and dessert. There also will be a silent auction with many gift items. The Grinter House will be open for tours from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
