Lineman’s rodeo to be Oct. 15
The 33rd Annual International Lineman’s Rodeo will be Saturday, Oct. 15, in Bonner Springs, Kan. The rodeo competition will occur on Saturday, Oct. 15, at the National Agricultural Center and Hall of Fame at 126th and State in Bonner Springs, kicking off at 7 a.m. Team and apprentice events will include The Hurtman Rescue, the Pole Climb, and several mystery events. An Awards Banquet will be held at the Overland Park Convention Center at 7 p.m. that day. Three workers from the Board of Public Utilities will compete in the event, which is free and open to the public.

Democrats to meet Saturday
The Wyandotte County Third Saturday Democratic Breakfast will be held Saturday, Oct. 15, at The Dotte Spot Bar and Grill, 8123 Parallel Parkway, Kansas City, Kan. State Rep. Kathy Wolfe Moore, D-36th Dist., and Rep. Tom Burroughs, D-33rd Dist., will be the speakers. Rep. Wolfe Moore has opposition in the general election. Rep. Burroughs is the Democratic House leader and will give an overview of the election contests this year. A breakfast buffet will be available at 8:15 a.m., with the program beginning at 9:15 a.m. The program is open to all Democrats. The cost of the breakfast is $10, or $6 for students and those on limited incomes. There is a $2 charge for coffee for those not purchasing breakfast.

Kansas City Renaissance Festival continues
The Renaissance Festival continues on the weekends and on Columbus Day through Oct. 16, at 126th and State Avenue, Bonner Springs. Hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. For more information, see www.kcrenfest.com/.

Fifty-Plus Fair planned at library
A Fifty-Plus Fair is planned from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 15, at the West Wyandotte Public Library auditorium, 1737 N. 82nd St., Kansas City, Kan. The fair will provide opportunities for those 50 and older to contact local organizations that provide services, information and community resources.

Get Out the Vote rally planned Saturday
El Centro will sponsor a Get Out the Vote Rally with voter registration booths from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at El Rio Bravo Supermarket, 11 S. 10th St., Kansas City, Kan. It will be a family-friendly event with food and music. There will be information about what will be on the ballot. Voter registration will be offered, and those interested in registering should bring in their birth certificate or their naturalization certificate.

Kansas Speedway races scheduled
The Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Hollywood Casino 400 will be at 1:15 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16, at the Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, Kan. The Kansas Lottery 300 NASCAR XFINITY Series race will take center stage at 2 p.m. on Oct. 15. Tickets can be purchased online at www.kansasspeedway.com or by calling 866-460-7223.

Unsolved civil rights cases topic of program
“Alvin Sykes: A Quest for Justice” will be presented from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at the Main Kansas City, Kan., Public Library, 625 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, Kan. Sykes will discuss his work on unsolved civil rights cases, as detailed in the book, “Emmett Till: The Murder that Shocked the World and Propelled the Civil Rights Movement.”

Museum plans History Howl

The third annual History Howl will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at the Wyandotte County Museum, within Wyandotte County Park, 126th and State, Bonner Springs. Events include face painting, a balloon artist, hay rides, pumpkin painting and a bounce house. There will be cotton candy and popcorn. Admission is free for adults and $5 for children, which includes all activities and crafts. Church plans Oktoberfest dinner Saturday
An Oktoberfest is planned at 4 p.m. Oct. 15 at St. Mary-St. Anthony Catholic Church, 615 N. 7th St., Kansas City, Kan. The event includes a traditional Oktoberfest dinner. Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the door.

KCKCC play to be presented Oct. 13-16
“The Addams Family: The Musical” will be presented by Kansas City Kansas Community College theater students from Oct. 13-16. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 13, 14 and 15 at the Performing Arts Center. There is also a matinee at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16. The musical is under the direction of Charles Leader with musical direction by Lenora Remmert. Choreography by Michael Joy and Paula Lang.
