Grinter Place plans car show today
Grinter Place, 78th and K-32, is planning a car show from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24. The car show is sponsored by the Friends of Grinter Place, and the event is free to the public. People will be able to show their cars, according to the Friends. There will be a barbecue, with sandwiches and soft drinks available for sale. Lawn games are planned for visitors, including croquet, bean bag toss and ring toss. Anyone may participate. There will be tours of the historic Grinter House available during the car show, and the gift shop will be open. There is a $3 charge for tours of Grinter House, 1420 S. 78th. Grinter Place, built in 1857, is the oldest house still standing in Wyandotte County.

Church plans breakfast
An all-church breakfast is planned from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24, at the Wyandotte United Methodist Church, 7901 Oakland Ave. It will be served by the trustees. A free will donation will be accepted.

Butterfly Festival planned today at Schlagle Library
The 11th annual Lawson Roberts Butterfly Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at the Mr. and Mrs. F.L. Schlagle Library, 4051 West Drive, at Wyandotte County Lake Park, 91st and Leavenworth Road. Participants may help tag monarch butterflies. There will be face-painting and crafts.

Author to speak Saturday at library
Author Julee Jonez will speak at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at the Main Kansas City, Kan., PUblic Library auditorium, 625 Minnesota Ave. She will discuss writing her novel, “Pressing Past the Past.” Jonez, a radio personality in Kansas City, Mo., was born in Kansas City, Mo. She is in the library’s Local Authors series.

Slovenefest planned today at Holy Family
Holy Family Catholic Church is celebrating Slovenefest 2016, on Saturday, Sept. 24. The celebration will be held at Holy Family Club, at the Monsignor Mejak Hall, Gym and School Grounds, at 513 Ohio, in Kansas City, Kan., and will run from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24. All proceeds benefit Holy Family Church. The event will be held rain or shine. Bishop Ward plans auction Sept. 24
