Runaway tire on I-70 results in seven-vehicle accident; hit-and-run reported

A seven-vehicle accident was reported Tuesday evening on eastbound I-70 as a tire struck two vehicles, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper’s crash log.

The accident was at 5:07 p.m. Tuesday on eastbound I-70 near the I-635 exit, according to the report.

A 2000 GMC Sierra driven by a 52-year-old Lathrop, Missouri, man lost control of the left rear tire, according to the trooper’s report.

A white commercial motor vehicle swerved to miss the tire and collided into a 2020 Ford Escape, the trooper’s report stated.

The white commercial vehicle was listed as a hit-and-run vehicle in the trooper’s report as it left the scene, and other information was not available on it, according to the report.

Next, a black sport utility vehicle rear-ended a 2010 Lincoln MKZ, according to the trooper’s report. The black sport utility vehicle was listed as a hit-and-run as it left the scene of the accident, according to the trooper’s report.

The accident was not over yet, as the tire then struck a 2001 Honda Civic and a 2004 Chevy Silverado truck, the trooper’s report stated.

The driver of the Ford Escape, a 21-year-old Kansas City, Kansas, woman, had a possible minor injury and was taken to the hospital, the trooper’s report stated. A 20-year-old male passenger from Kansas City, Kansas, in the Escape was not injured, according to the report.

The driver of the GMC Sierra was not injured, according to the report.

The driver of the Lincoln MKZ, a 40-year-old man from Basehor, Kansas, was not injured, the report stated.

The driver of the Honda Civic, a 31-year-old man from Kansas City, Kansas, also was not injured, according to the report.

The driver of the 2004 Chevy Silverado, a 42-year-old Kansas City, Kansas, man, also was not injured, the report stated.
