Residents could see variety in weather this week

Many kinds of weather – high temperatures in the 70s, low temperatures below freezing, storms, winds, hail, snow and a slight chance of a tornado – are in this week’s forecast from the National Weather Service.

Today, Wyandotte County residents will see a high near 59, and Tuesday temperatures will increase to a high of 78, according to the weather service. Then a cold front will follow.

Showers and a thunderstorm could move in on Tuesday night and Wednesday, bringing from a half-inch to an inch of rain over the two days, the weather service said.

Strong, gusty south winds are expected on Tuesday, with northwest winds on Wednesday, according to the weather service. There is a potential for severe storms on Tuesday night along the cold front, with large hail and straight-line winds the main threats. An isolated tornado is not ruled out.

Light snow is possible early Thursday morning north of the St. Joseph, Missouri, area, the weather service said. Temperatures will drop to 33 degrees on Wednesday night with a slight chance of precipitation in Wyandotte County, and 30 degrees on Thursday night.

More rain is possible Friday night and Saturday, according to the forecast, with temperatures in the mid-to-high 30s.

Today, it will be partly sunny, with a high near 59, the weather service said. An east southeast wind of 8 to 15 mph will gust as high as 22 mph.

Tonight, it will be mostly cloudy, with a low of 46 and an east southeast wind 11 to 13 mph, gusting as high as 26 mph, according to the weather service.

Tuesday, it will be partly sunny, with a high near 78, the weather service said. A south wind of 13 to 21 mph will gust as high as 34 mph.

Tuesday night, there is an 80 percent chance of showers and possibly a thunderstorm, with a low of 48, according to the weather service. A south southwest wind of 15 to 21 mph will gust as high as 40 mph. Between a quarter and half-inch of rain is possible.

Wednesday, there is a 70 percent chance of showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm, the weather service said. The high will be near 57. A northwest wind of 13 to 16 mph will gust as high as 26 mph. Between a quarter and half-inch of rain is possible.

Wednesday night, there is a 20 percent chance of rain before 1 a.m., with a low of 33, according to the weather service.

Thursday, it will be partly sunny, with a high near 50, the weather service said.

Thursday night, it will be mostly clear, with a low of 30, according to the weather service.

Friday, it will be mostly sunny, with a high near 58, the weather service said.

Friday night, there is a 60 percent chance of rain, mainly after 1 a.m., according to the weather service. The low will be around 38.

Saturday, there is a 50 percent chance of rain, with a high near 56, the weather service said.

Saturday night, the low will be around 35, according to the weather service.

Sunday, it will be mostly sunny, with a high near 61, the weather service said.
