A woman suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to a hospital in serious but stable condition after a fire near South 13th and Gibbs Road on Monday night.
According to a Kansas City, Kan., Fire Department spokesman, the fire at 9:43 p.m. Feb. 29 at 2425 S. 13th St. is under investigation and the cause is undetermined.
The fire was a total loss for a house at that location. A separate structure, a garage to the north, also caught on fire, according to the spokesman.
Firefighters responding to the fire found three residents already outside, with a woman on the ground suffering smoke inhalation.
The spokesman said crews reached the scene within 4 minutes . The fire was extinguished within 30 minutes, the spokesman said.
The pre-fire values of the structures were $80,000, and the estimated total fire loss was $80,000 to the buildings and $20,000 to the contents, according to the spokesman.
There were no smoke or fire detectors at the home, according to the Fire Department.
