Buoyed by a record-tying 21 three-point field goals, Kansas City Kansas Community College rode a strong bench performance to a 108-56 road win at Ottawa University JV Wednesday.

“Our bench played great – 64 points off the bench,” said KCKCC coach Kelley Newton. “It was good to see shots go in. We needed it.”

Reserves provided 11 of the 21 three-pointers including seven by Armoni Shorter and three by Stephen Moore. Shorter finished with 21 points, Moore with 13. Both were career highs and each added six rebounds. Garrick McCuller also came off the bench to lead with seven assists while Xavier Gaona led in rebounding with seven.

Sophomore Dehaven Talley added six treys in a 20-point outburst while Joe Lendway, Gaona and Trevor Young added nine points each and Jonathan Murray six rebounds. Four Blue Devils had four assists – Kellan Turner, Mike Lee, Lendway and Gaona.

The Blue Devils shot 51.4 percent from the field, 45.7 percent from three-point while matching the KCKCC record of three-pointers set against Garden City Dec. 3, 1988.

The win in their final non-conference game of the season boosted the Blue Devils’ record to 13-7 heading into a pair of Jayhawk Conference road games – at Labette Saturday at 4 p.m. and at Brown Mackie next Wednesday at 8 p.m.
