The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for Wyandotte County and the surrounding area from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. today.
A very high fire danger will develop this afternoon over much of the area, the weather service said.
Westerly winds will become breezy at 9 to 16 mph with gusts over 23 mph, while relative humidity values fall to 20 to 30 percent this afternoon, according to the weather service.
Residents are asked to avoid all outdoor burning, as fires will spread rapidly, the weather service said.
Today, the high will be near 62 with mostly sunny skies, the weather service said. Tonight’s low will be around 37 with a west southwest wind of 5 to 11 mph.
Thursday, it will be sunny with a high near 61 and west wind of 5 to 11 mph, the weather service said. Thursday night, the low will be 37 with a west northwest wind of 5 to 7 mph becoming northeast in the evening.
Friday, it will be mostly cloudy with a high near 49, according to the weather service. A north northwest wind of 7 to 14 mph will gust as high as 18 mph. Friday night, the low will be around 32.
Saturday it will be mostly sunny, with a high near 50, the weather service said. Saturday night, the low will be around 30.
