Race car driver pays special visit to kids at KU Hospital

Colin Braun

A race car driver in town for the IMSA race June 7 at Kansas Speedway paid a special visit to the University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kan.

Colin Braun, prototype driver from CORE autosport, visited the pediatric unit at KU Hospital today to build and race pinewood derby cars with young patients.

Braun’s hospital visit was held in association with the Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer. As a charity of IMSA, the Austin Hatcher Foundation partners with teams throughout the race season to visit area hospitals to provide diversionary therapy opportunities for patients, siblings and their family members both within pediatric oncology units and general pediatric units.

Braun and foundation volunteers worked with young patients and their families to build the pinewood derby cars, and then raced them down an inclined track.
