Public visitation planned for two officers from Lansing Correctional Facility

A public visitation is planned on Thursday, May 21, for two corrections officers at the Lansing Correctional Facility.

The public drive-through visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at the west parking log on the grounds of the Lansing Correctional Facility, 301 E. Kansas St., Lansing, Kansas.

Two correctional officers who died will be honored with a public memorial service.

George Bernard Robare and Fella Adebivi, Lansing Correctional Facility supervisors, died one day apart, on May 11 and 12, from complications of COVID-19.

Robare, a former Marine, served as a correctional officer at LCF for 36 years. Adebiyi served with the Kansas Department of Corrections for 20 years.

Masks are required to be worn by all in attendance, and events will honor social distancing guidelines.

A private candlelight vigil will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday for family and staff only.

Family and friends of the officers, area law enforcement agencies and officers, Lansing Correctional Facility staff and members of the public may attend the visitation.
