Several promotions have been announced at the Kansas City, Kan., Police Department, according to a recent announcement. They are to take effect Jan. 8.
The department has a new chief, Terry Zeigler, who was named in December.
The promotions include:
Major Tyrone Garner was promoted to deputy chief. He was previously the executive officer of the bureau of operations, and served as acting assistant chief in the serves bureau for the past three months. He has been a major for eight years.
Capt. Rodney Smith was promoted to the rank of major. Currently the commander of the internal affairs unit, Smith has been a captain for 11 years.
Capt. William Howard was promoted to the rank of major. He serves as a field commander in the bureau of operations, and has held the rank of captain for nine years.
Capt. Solomon Young was promoted to the rank of major. He is currently a field commander in the bureau of operations. He has held the rank of captain for eight years.
Detective Michael Vivian was promoted to the rank of captain. A field commander in the bureau of operations, he has held the rank of detective for 10 years.
