Police request assistance in Village West area burglary cases

Kansas City, Kansas, police are requesting residents’ assistance in investigating burglaries in the Piper and Village West areas.

Police officers received calls from residents at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28, about two persons breaking into vehicles in the Legends area, according to a spokesman. Police were able to identify the suspect vehicle and get a description of two suspects, who were taken into custody, the spokesman stated.

A police spokesman stated they have seen a high number of burglaries in the last week to automobiles in the Piper and Village West area.

They are asking any resident who may have information regarding these incidents to reach out to the police department. Police are looking for any video and any victims who may not have reported an incident when it occurred, according to the spokesman.

The police spokesman reminded the public of the dangers of approaching suspects who are breaking into vehicles.

It is believed one of the suspects allegedly involved in the Sunday incident was armed with a handgun, according to police. The spokesman urged residents to call 911 when they see criminal activity and not put themselves in a position of harm.

Anyone with information on the burglaries is asked to call the TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS, according to police. Those who need to make a report may call the nonemergency number at 913-596-3000 for further assistance, police stated.
