Police chase suspect on I-70
A police chase was initiated on eastbound I-70 after officers tried to stop a vehicle on a felony charge, according to a social media post by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.
The chase occurred around 3:15 a.m. Jan. 8 starting at the 7800 block of Splitlog, according to the report. The chase was approved by the supervisors.
The suspect vehicle headed directly onto eastbound I-70, the report stated.
The pursuit was ended when the suspect exited onto I-635 southbound, because the danger to the officers and the public in vehicles was increasing, and the danger outweighed the necessity to immediately apprehend the suspect, the report stated.
Traffic was temporarily diverted on I-70 during the initial investigation. Police are continuing the investigation.
Forgery reported near 48th and Gibbs; case related to stolen vehicle
Police responded to a bank on a forgery investigation at 4:02 p.m. Jan. 8 near South 48th and Gibbs Road, according to a social media post by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.
The suspect was trying to cash a check when the teller noticed the signature was different and contacted the account owner, according to the report. The victim’s vehicle had been broken into and checks were taken, according to the report.
The suspect fled by car, and an officer in the area located the car, according to the report. He tried to stop the vehicle but it failed to yield, according to the report. He deployed “StarChase” and achieved a successful hit, the report stated. StarChase is a tracking system that launches a GPS signal into the fleeing car.
The officer then turned off his emergency equipment and did not pursue, the report stated. Dispatchers tracked the vehicle and officers recovered it, unoccupied, according to the report.
Large disturbance reported at hotel on 110th
A large disturbance was reported at 10:34 p.m. Jan. 8 at a hotel near the 1800 block of North 110th, according to a social media post by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.
Officers responded to assist hotel management, who were escorting parties off the property, according to the report. The persons were being disorderly and causing a disturbance with other people, according to the report.
Wyandotte County Sheriff’s deputies also responded to assist, as the parties appeared to be highly intoxicated and combative with each other, the report stated.
One person was booked, on a suspicion of being a danger to herself and others, according to the report. Two others were cited for obstruction and disorderly conduct and released, the report stated.
EMS responded and was refused by the arrestees, the report stated.
