A shooting reported at 6:20 p.m. Tuesday is the city’s 30th homicide of 2021.
Detectives with the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department are investigating the homicide in the 3100 block of Cleveland Avenue, a spokesman stated.
After officers were dispatched to the location, they found a deceased male in his early 20s, the apparent victim of gunfire, according to the spokesman.
Neighbors had heard gunshots around 4:30 p.m., but because of the location of the body under a tree in a grassy area, the victim was not discovered until a pedestrian walked through the area, the spokesman stated.

The case is being handled by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department’s Major Case Unit.
