Police investigate fatal accident at James Street Bridge

Kansas City, Kan., police are investigating a fatal accident in the 300 block of James Street.

A police spokesman said Kansas City, Kan., officers were in the 300 block of James Street at 7:16 a.m. Feb. 15 following up on possible copper thefts when they discovered the accident.

They saw a white vehicle under the James Street Bridge that had been involved in an accident, the spokesman said.

The officers found two males inside the vehicle, one deceased and one who was taken to the hospital in critical condition, the spokesman said.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the vehicle was traveling westbound on James Street, lost control and went over the side of the bridge, resulting in a single-vehicle fatality accident, the spokesman said.

The identity of the victim will be withheld until there is positive identification and family notification, the spokesman said.

The accident is under investigation by the Kansas City, Kan., Police Department’s Traffic Support Unit – Critical Collision Response Team.
