The Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department is scheduled for an on-site assessment as part of the process to maintain accreditation showing that the department meets professional standards.
Administered by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), the accreditation program requires agencies to comply with state-of-the-art standards in the following areas: policy and procedure, administration, operations and support services.
As part of the on-site assessment, agency employees and members of the community are invited to offer comment at a public information session at 5 p.m. Monday, March 21. The session will be conducted at KCKPD headquarters, 700 Minnesota Ave., in the first floor meeting room. Those wishing to speak must request a time in advance by calling Officer Thomas Tomasic at 913-573-6118.
Agency employees and the public may also offer comment by calling 913-314-1721 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on March 21. The assessment team will take those comments.
Telephone comments, as well as appearances at the public information sessions, are limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA standards. A copy of the standards is available at the KCKPD Police Headquarters for review.
