Community activist Tamika Pledger was sentenced to jail from 6 p.m. today to Sunday for disobeying a judge’s order.

Pledger had talked to the victim’s family through the media, including television stations KSHB-TV and KMBC-TV. The judge had ordered her not to talk to the victim’s families.

“Evidently I did not get your attention,” Judge Robert Serra told Pledger today in a hearing at Wyandotte County District Court.

Pledger was arrested in an accident in which her car hit four teens, and she was charged with involuntary manslaughter when one died.

On television, Pledger explained her accident, where her car hit some teens who were gathered outdoors Jan. 30 at the 1300 block of Troup in the street watching a fight. She said there had been some misconceptions in the earlier reports that she wanted to clear up.

Pledger was running for a seat on the Unified Government Commission, 1st District at large, at the time of the accident.
