Kansas City Kansas Community College ran into an offensive juggernaut at arch-rival Penn Valley Saturday.

Draining 19 three-point field goals, the torrid shooting Scouts raced to a 102-70 win that dropped the Blue Devils below the .500 mark at 4-5 heading into one of the busiest weeks of the season.

KCKCC goes to Topeka Monday to face Washburn junior varsity in the second half of a women-men’s doubleheader and then faces Park University Wednesday in Parkville before returning home Friday for a re-match with North Arkansas. All three men’s games will tip off at 7 p.m.

Penn Valley’s 19 three-pointers came on just 33 attempts for 57.5 percent and helped the Scouts shoot 62.5 percent overall, 30 of 48 attempts.

The Blue Devils also shot better than 50 percent, hit 27 of 53 attempts (.505) but could not overcome 26 turnovers to just six for Penn Valley. The Scouts also had a 34-32 edge in rebounding.

Solomon Thomas led KCKCC with 15 points while Dion Union added 11, Trevon Jefferson 10 and DuVonte Beard and Josiah Laws 9 each.

Jefferson also had four blocks and shared Blue Devil rebound honors with Laws with seven each. Union led in assists with four.

KCKCC and Penn Valley will meet again Jan. 13 at KCKCC.
