Westbound I-70 from west of 18th Street Expressway to I-635 – Park Drive exit will be reduced to one open lane for pavement marking work beginning at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 14.

The three lanes will fully reopen by 8 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 15, weather permitting, according to the Kansas Department of Transportation.

Once the pavement marking work is completed, westbound I-70 from 18th Street Expressway to I-635-Park Drive will be reopened to three lanes of traffic and the 38th Street-Park Drive-Kaw Drive to westbound I-70 ramp will be reopened to all traffic.

Once these lanes and ramp reopen, the only remaining closure on this project is the eastbound I-70 over Quarry Road bridge lane closures. This is the last remaining portion of the bridge project work underway and eastbound I-70 over the Quarry Road bridge is scheduled to reopen sometime late next week, Nov. 16-20, weather permitting.

Project construction information, including general phasing, traffic impacts and marked detour route maps can be viewed at: I-70 over Kaw Drive Multi-Bridge Construction Project Handout. Updated daily traffic information for this reconstruction project and for the entire Kansas metro area can be viewed online at: www.ksdot.org/kcmetro/laneclose.asp.

Motorists are asked to slow down in the work zones, obey the warning signs and be alert, a KDOT spokesman said.

Project work is scheduled to be completed in December 2015, weather permitting.
