Fifty prom dresses, worth about $450 to $500 each, were donated recently to Cross-Lines Community Outreach, according to Theresa Swartwood, Cross-Lines director of public relations and marketing.

The new prom dresses were donated by Teresa’s Bridals at Algona, Iowa, Swartwood said.

The store owner has family in the Kansas City community and wanted to help the area, she said.

Cross-Lines will make the dresses available to the public through its Cross-Lines Thrift Store, Swartwood said, where they will be sold for $50 each. It will be first-come, first-served for the dresses.

It will be just in time for proms, which will start in April.  The dresses could be worn to prom, or could be fancy dresses for 15th birthday parties or other special events, she added.

The same donor also gave many prom dresses about four or five years ago to Cross-Lines. At that time the agency had a prom dress drive, which has since been discontinued.

The Cross-Lines Thrift Store is at 628 S. Pyle, Kansas City, Kan. It is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 15.
