A few storms may develop across eastern Kansas and west central Missouri this afternoon, but are not expected to become strong or severe, the weather service said.
More isolated non-severe storms are possible Friday afternoon, according to the weather service.
With the orange ozone alert, residents are advised to limit driving and mowing the lawn. Residents are encouraged to combine trips, carpool and take the bus today. Also, residents may want to schedule strenuous activities for early morning or late evening.
Today, it will be sunny with a high of 95 and a heat index rising as high as 99, the weather service said. A calm wind will become south southwest around 5 mph. There is a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m.
Tonight, it will be mostly clear with a low of 71 and a south southwest wind of 3 to 5 mph, according to the weather service.
Friday, there is a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m., the weather service said. The high will be near 91. A light and variable wind will become north 5 to 8 mph in the morning.
