One victim of double shooting at Kaw Point dies

A gunshot victim at Kaw Point Park Nov. 8 has died, according to police.

Juan Perez, 23, of Kansas City, Kansas, died Nov. 11 from his injuries at the park, at 1 River City Drive, according to a Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department spokesman.

It was the 53rd homicide of 2020 in Kansas City, Kansas, according to police.

Perez was one of two victims who had bullet wounds, according to police.

The other victim is in the hospital in serious but stable condition, the police spokesman stated.

The homicide case is being investigated by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division. Anyone with information is asked to call the TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS, according to the police spokesman.

Police recently announced that Kaw Point Park will be closed at night. The park is now closed from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m., according to an announcement on the police department’s social media site, because of damage to the park from unauthorized use and because those gatherings have the potential to spread COVID-19.
