Local governments and many businesses will be on a holiday schedule on Monday for Labor Day.
The Unified Government offices will be closed for the Labor Day holiday on Monday, Sept. 3.
Also closed will be the Board of Public Utilities’ offices. Emergency BPU service will be available on the holiday; the telephone number for electric emergencies on the holiday is 913-573-9522, and the telephone number for water emergencies is 913-573-9622.
Trash pickup will be delayed one day next week because of the holiday. There will be no trash pickup or recycling pickup on Labor Day.
Those residences whose trash days are usually on Monday will be picked up on Tuesday, with a similar change the entire week for customers in Wyandotte County. Tuesday’s pickup will be on Wednesday; Wednesday’s pickup will be on Thursday; Thursday’s pickup will be on Friday; and Friday’s pickup will be on Saturday of next week.
Labor Day, Sept. 3, is a holiday for state of Kansas employees, and for federal employees.
Labor Day is also a postal holiday for employees of the U.S. Postal Service. Labor Day is also a bank holiday.
