A police officer shot a man armed with a sword on Saturday night in the 1100 block of Washington Avenue in Kansas City, Kan.
According to a Kansas City, Kan., Police Department spokesman, officers went to the address after receiving a complaint of an armed disturbance around 10 p.m.
They found a man in his 50s armed with a sword. When a police officer gave verbal commands to drop the sword, the suspect refused, the spokesman said.
The suspect charged at the officer and the officer shot the suspect, the police spokesman said. The suspect died from his injuries at the scene, according to the spokesman.
The name of the suspect is being withheld pending family notification. Police said the officer was not injured during the incident, and the investigation is ongoing.
