Officer receives minor injuries in pursuit of suspect vehicle

A Kansas City, Kan., police officer received minor injuries while pursuing a suspect vehicle Monday night.

According to a spokesman for the Police Department, the officer was pinned between the suspect vehicle and a parked car.

Police had responded to the 8100 block of Kaw Drive after being called around 7:28 p.m. June 23 about a suspicious vehicle that had rammed a gate at a business.

Officers saw a vehicle fleeing the scene and pursued it, according to the spokesman. The vehicle had been reported stolen.

Several of the occupants of the vehicle ran from it in the 1300 block of Orville Avenue, police said.

The vehicle was still moving when an officer at the scene attempted to remove the last occupant. That was when the suspect vehicle struck a parked car, pinning the officer and the occupant between the two vehicles, the spokesman said.

Both the officer and the occupant of the vehicle had minor injuries and were taken to the hospital.

The other occupants were taken into custody, the spokesman said.

The Police Department is investigating the aggravated battery incident.
