U.S. Sen. Jerry Moran, R-Kan., has nominated 18 area students this week for admission to a U.S. service academy.
The 18 students were from Johnson County; none was from Wyandotte County or Kansas City, Kan.
In addition, Moran nominated 42 students in all for the academies, including students from Topeka, Wichita, Valley Center, Leavenworth, Lansing, Girard, Lawrence, Goodland, Marion, Dodge City, Meriden, Fort Leavenworth and Andover.
Sen. Moran’s office did not receive any applications from Wyandotte County students, according to Moran’s office.
U.S. Sen. Pat Roberts, R-Kan., also announced 37 U.S. service academy nominations this week.
None of the nominees was from Wyandotte County.
The senators have screening boards that interview applicants and review their applications. Not all nominees will receive an appointment, as the academies make the selections based on a limited number of openings.
