The No. 19 KCKCC baseball team fell behind early to State Fair Community College on Tuesday, but the Blue Devils capitalized on opportunities in the middle innings to defeat the Roadrunners at home, 7-3 on Tuesday.
It was the team’s 12th win in a row as it is now 21-3 overall.
State Fair struck for three runs in the first two innings to take the early lead.
KCKCC was shut out for the first three frames, but got on the board in the fourth with one run. The Blue Devils continued that momentum with three more runs in the fifth inning to take a 4-3 lead.
Nathaniel Uglialoro and Alan Mercado came in relief of Brett Owen and threw 8.2 shutout innings.
KCKCC scored two more runs in the seventh and one in the eighth, before Mercado shut the door on the Roadrunners in the ninth inning.
Darius Freeman led the team with two hits and Brendyn Bard had two RBI.
KCKCC is back on the field Thursday at home when it plays host to Coffeyville Community College for a doubleheader at 1 p.m.
