New president announced for K-State

Kansas State University, Manhattan, has a new president.

Retired Gen. Richard B. Myers was named president today by the Kansas Board of Regents. Myers is a former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, from 2001 to 2005 under former President George W. Bush. He has served as interim K-State president since April of this year.

He becomes the 14th president of the university, which traces its origins to Bluemont Central College in 1858, becoming a land-grant college in 1863.

Myers, from Merriam, Kan., graduated from K-State in 1965 with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. He holds a master’s in business administration, as well as military education. Myers was a command pilot in the Air Force.
