‘Munch Madness’ campaign to raise funds for food pantries

Metro Lutheran Ministry has launched a full-court press against hunger in the Kansas City area through its “Munch Madness” campaign.

The campaign benefits hundreds of people who visit MLM’s food pantries, including one at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Kansas City, Kansas. Other MLM food pantries are in downtown Kansas City, Missouri, and in the Northland.

The goal is to raise $140,000 to fully fund all three food pantries for a year.

“We see people every day who have chronic food shortages,” explained MLM Executive Director Jim Glynn. “This includes children who go to bed hungry and seniors who are trying to get by with a fixed income. Our neighbors often have to choose between paying utility bills or buying food.”

Thanks to a generous matching gift from Blessings Abound Thrift Store in Overland Park, every dollar given between March 1 and March 31 will be doubled.

As part of this campaign, the sixth annual 3B – Basketball, Barbecue and Beer event – will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 15, at Boulevard Brewing Co., 2501 Southwest Blvd., Kansas City, Missouri. At the event, there will be samples of Boulevard beers, Joe’s KC Barbecue and those attending may watch the NCAA tournament games on large-screen televisions.

All the proceeds from the March 15 event will go toward the “Munch Madness” campaign, according to a spokesman. Registration for the event is required to www.mlmkc.org/3b.html.
