More storms in the forecast today and Friday

A round of showers and storms moved through Wyandotte County this morning, but it is not expected to be the last one today.

Another round of strong to severe storms is expected this evening, the National Weather Service forecast said.

Residents are asked to be weather aware, be ready to act and to have multiple ways to receiving warning information.

Multiple waves of thunderstorms are expected during the next few days, the weather service said.

Thunderstorms over the same location could lead to flash floods, according to the weather service. Wyandotte County is under a flash flood watch from 4 p.m. Thursday through 7 a.m. Friday, the weather service said.

From one to three inches of rain are possible through tonight, according to the weather service. If you see water on the road, turn around and don’t try to go through it.

Thursday evening storms may include large hail up to 2 inches, damaging winds up to 80 mph and isolated tornadoes, the weather service said.

On Friday afternoon and evening, there will be a slight risk of severe storms. The storms are capable of producing damaging winds, large hail and isolated tornadoes, according to the weather service.

Additional thunderstorms are possible Saturday afternoon and evening, possibly with damaging wind gusts and large hail, the weather service said.

Tonight, there is a 70 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 10 p.m., according to the weather service. Some storms could be severe, with heavy rain. The low will be around 76 with a south wind of 8 to 11 mph, gusting as high as 22 mph. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain are possible.

Friday, there is a 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1 p.m., the weather service said. Some of the storms could be severe. The high will be near 91, with a heat index as high as 99. A south wind of 10 mph will gust as high as 20 mph. Between a half and three-quarters inches of rain are possible.

Friday night, there is a 90 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with some of the storms possibly severe, according to the weather service. The low will be around 73 with a south wind of 6 to 8 mph, gusting to as high as 18 mph. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches are possible.

Saturday, there is an 80 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with a high near 84, the weather service said. A west southwest wind of 6 to 8 mph will gust as high as 18 mph. Between a half and three-quarters inch of rain are possible.

Saturday night, there is a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with a low of 66, according to the weather service. Between a half and three-quarters of an inch of rain are possible.
