More rain, storms possible today

After a morning storm and rain, more rain is possible today, mainly before 2 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

Heavy rain across the region could lead to local flooding and flash flooding this morning, the weather service said. Weather radar maps showed that storms now in the Topeka area could be headed toward Wyandotte County this morning.

There is a slight or 10 percent chance of severe storms later in the afternoon and evening, as well, according to the weather service. Hail, damaging winds and heavy rain are possible.

Today’s high will be in the low 80s, with temperatures expected to gradually increase through the end of the week. On Saturday, the high could be 97.

Today, showers and thunderstorms are possible before 2 p.m., the weather service said. The high will be near 82 with an east wind of 5 to 7 mph becoming north in the afternoon. Between a half and three-quarters of an inch of rain is possible.

Tonight, there is a 10 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 7 p.m., according to the weather service. The low will be around 70 with a north wind of 5 to 7 mph becoming calm in the evening.

Thursday, it will be partly sunny, with a high near 86 and a calm wind becoming east around 6 mph in the afternoon, the weather service said.

Thursday night, the low will be 72 with a calm wind, according to the weather service.

Friday, there is a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1 p.m., with a high near 94, the weather service said. A calm wind will become south 5 to 8 mph in the afternoon.

Friday night, it will be partly cloudy, with a low of 78, according to the weather service.

Saturday, it will be mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 97, the weather service said.
