Severe storms are possible this afternoon to the north of the Kansas City area and Tuesday afternoon southeast of a Topeka to Des Moines line, according to the National Weather Service.
While some rain has already fallen this morning in Wyandotte County, rain is still in the forecast for the next few days.
Today’s severe weather threat may be limited by an expansive area of rain and associated cloud cover spreading east into Missouri, according to the weather service.
If cloud cover can thin out and the area destabilize, the severe threat would increase with damaging winds and a few tornadoes possible, the weather service said.
Tomorrow’s severe weather threat may be limited by cloud cover as well. But if clouds thin and the region destabilizes, storms could produce damaging winds, hail and a few tornadoes, according to the weather service.
Hot and humid conditions return Wednesday through the end of the week, the weather service said. High temperatures are expected to be in the middle to upper 90s with heat indices of 100 to 105.
Today, there will be a high of 83 with showers and thunderstorms possible before 11 a.m., the weather service said. An east southeast wind of 8 to 10 mph is in the forecast. Between a tenth and quarter-inch of rain is expected.
Tonight, there is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 10 p.m., according to the weather service. It will be partly cloudy, with a low of 70 and a south wind of 6 to 10 mph.
Tuesday, there is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m., with a high near 91 and a southwest wind of 7 to 11 mph, the weather service said. The heat index may be as high as 96.
Tuesday night, there is a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 1 a.m., according to the weather service. It will be partly cloudy, with a low of 72 and a southwest wind of 6 to 9 mph.
Wednesday, it will be sunny with a high near 96 and a southwest wind of 6 mph becoming east in the afternoon, the weather service said.
Wednesday night, the low will be around 77 with mostly clear skies, according to the weather service.
Thursday, it will be sunny and hot, with a high near 97, the weather service said.
