More rain in forecast today

After some morning thunderstorms, the forecast today calls for another round of strong storms, mainly north of the Missouri River, according to the National Weather Service.

The threat for severe weather ramps up after 4 p.m. and should last into the late evening, the weather service said.

Prolonged rainfall over the area could result in high rainfall amount, several inches in some areas, through the weekend. River flooding and flash flood is possible in some areas.

There is a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms mainly after 2 p.m. today, the weather service said. The high will be near 88, and the heat index as high as 95. A south southeast wind of 6 to 13 mph will become southwest in the afternoon.

Tonight, there is a 70 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, according to the weather service. The low will be around 69, with a southwest wind of 5 to 7 mph. Between three-quarters and one inch of rain is possible.

Thursday, there is a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, the weather service said. The high will be near 81, and a light and variable wind will become north 5 to 8 mph in the morning.

Thursday night, there is a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, according to the weather service. The low will be around 65. A north northeast wind will be 5 to 8 mph. Between a quarter and half-inch of rain is possible.

Friday, a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms is in the forecast, according to the weather service. The high will be near 80, with an east northeast wind of 6 to 9 mph.
